Kalifi Ferretti-Gallon
Kalifi has a new position at the UBC Asia Forest Research Center.
I graduated from Concordia University with a B.A. in Political Science. I have spent the last several years working with a variety of environmental groups. My scope on environmental issues is broad. Initially, I worked with an international organization on integrated water resources management. Finding my role less effective than I had wished, I began working with activist groups, engaging in direct campaigns against illegal whaling in international waters. Eventually it became clear that I needed a deeper understanding of underlying behavioral drivers and I started working with an investigation agency tracing illegal trade in endangered animal products. My work on endangered species eventually led to work on land use, and I began a research position with a large non-governmental organization, studying causes of deforestation. Through my work studying causes and impacts of land use change, I realized that there are a number of questions regarding resource quantity, quality, and effect that have yet to be investigated. During my time at UBC, I hope to at begin examining these issues. Answers to these questions are paramount to securing a stable, diverse and resource rich world.
