Hanna Karg
Hanna was a postdoctoral researcher at the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA).
Her research interests include urban food systems, food trade, and land use at multiple spatial scales, as well as their telecoupled linkages. Her research focuses on urban food sourcing in West Africa and how it is shaped by proximity to urban markets, agro-ecological conditions and cities’ integration in distribution networks. Therefore, she uses a large dataset with more than 100,000 records of food flows and geospatial analysis.
She obtained her PhD in Geography from the University of Freiburg, Germany, and was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Kassel, Germany. Prior to joining the SPPGA, she was a fellow at the Sahel and West Africa Club (SWAC/OECD) in Paris. Before starting her PhD, Hanna was involved in several projects on urban agriculture, wastewater irrigation and sanitation in Ghana, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
