Ginni Braich
PhD Student
I am a PhD student at the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability based at UBC, working in the areas of agriculture and the environment. My research is aimed at understanding the impact climate change has had on Canadian crop production and which management practices may help alleviate climate risks in the future. I am also interested broadly in the intersection of agriculture and climate change and the effect of a warming planet on growing, accessing and purchasing food.
I have a Bachelors in Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary and a Masters of Science with a focus on plant genetics from the International Max Planck Research School for Molecular Biology in Göttingen. My previous work experience includes several years with a government funding agency working in the areas of sustainable production and food innovation. With a focus on improving livestock and cropping systems in Western Canada through increasing yields, reducing inputs and improving resilience, I was involved in funding and managing projects while collaborating closely with government, NGOs, private sector and farmer boards.
