Arush Gaur

Picture
MSc Student

Arush is an MSc student at the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability, co-supervised by Prof. Navin Ramankutty and Prof. Milind Kandlikar. His research aims to apply quantitative data-driven and physical models to assess impacts of climate mitigation policies (like sustainable agriculture, renewables, electrification) on climate and environment.

Prior to this, he pursued his Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, India. His research there focused on analyzing CMIP6 climate models to study the impact of geo-engineering strategies (like stratospheric aerosol injection)  on rainfall patterns and extreme events over India. He also worked on developing ML models to predict future rainfall trends over the Indian state of Maharashtra, and use this predicted data for assessing its impacts over optimization-recommended cropping patterns which minimizes water use and carbon emissions and maximizes farmer profits and bio-ethanol production from crop biomass. Apart from research, his engineering days shaped his ability in quantitative skills and process modelling to work on crucial industrial and environmental problems.

He has a keen interest in working on developing climate policies from both a social and technological perspective, especially since such issues require international collaboration and a sense of empathy to deal with. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling, reading non-fiction and following current affairs.
